Match report | Preview
Bury earn their first win of the new campaign with a good team performance at Ram Meadow.

The first half swung from end to end as both teams attacked well. Blues first chance came on 15 minutes Phil Weavers cross field ball to smith out on the right wing and smith finding a bit of space to curl his pass on to Steve Holders head in the box, but a poor contact sent it wide of goal. On 26 minutes it was Canveys on the attack, Harrison Chattings long ball in to the box and John Sands running on to it was met by Conner Hall, Sands went to ground and Canvey appealed for a penalty but Ref Alan Dale waved play on. Anthony Thomas had another chance for Canvey on 25 minutes when he rifled a shot from distance through a crowd of players, it took a deflection and went through to Marcus Garnham who saved with ease. Bury took the lead on 30 minutes with a bizarre goal. Phil weavers hit a thunderbolt of a shot from distance straight at Steve Holder, Holder hit it again and it took a wicked deflection, looped high in the air and goal ward bound, St Louis-Hamilton in the Canvey goal was off his line and could not get back quick enough to stop the ball dipping just under the bar and into the net. Bury went in to the break ahead in what was a fairly even half.

Half Time: Bury Town 1 Canvey Island 0

Bury almost made it two on 51 minutes after Jack Brame picked up the ball and ran at the defence then moving across the face of the penalty area found Callum Bennett with a perfect pass, Bennetts beautifully struck curling shot hitting the far post to deny him a first class finish. Canvey went down to ten men on 58 minutes when Anthony Thomas was sent off for picking up his second yellow. Bury introduced new signings Remi Garrett and Justin Miller who both impressed as they got into the game. Bury again had a great chance to make it two on 67 minutes Jack Brame again pick up the ball running at the defence his pass found Hall who went round the keeper his low shot being cleared of the line by Mike Jones. Bury keep a clean sheet and take their first league win of the season in a confident display and a good all round team performance.
