Blues defence back on form against high flying Maidstone United

The Bury defence were back to their best and needed to be against as very attack minded Maidstone side. Bury still looked weak as an attacking force but did create some chances to get on the score sheet. The first good chance of the game fell to Maidstones Ben Greenhalgh whose long range effort on 9 minutes went just over the bar after a good give and go move with Frannie Collin. Greenhalgh and Collin were involved in most of Maidstone better moves throughout the first half testing the Blues at the back but not getting much through Burys determined rear-guard. Maidstone did not have things all their own way as Bury tried hard to get in to the game. On 24 minutes Liam Wales and Callum Bennett with some quick passing almost found Steve Holder just outside the box but the move was broke down by the Maidstone defence. We had a break in play on 30 minutes when the Ref pulled up and had to be replaced by one of the linesman. Maidstones Barry Fenn having to make up the numbers by running the line. Bury gave a good account of themselves first half as we went into the break all square.

Half Time: Maidstone United 0 Bury Town 0

Bury had a half chance early in the second half when on 46 minutes the ball broke to Jack Brame in midfield and with the keeper of his line Brames speculative long range effort went agonizingly just wide of the far post. A succession of Ross Bailey free kicks from the left of midfield looked like Burys best chances to score as he put them all deep into the box but could not find a team mate. The Blues defence were soaking up the pressure of Maidstone constant attacking second half and it took a set piece for Maidstone to break the deadlock. On 64 minutes a long throw into the box by Alex Flisher was met by the towering header of Maidstone captain Jamie Coyle who put it past Garnham from close range. The goal ignited Maidstone who finished the rest of the game on the attack but could not finish the chances they created. Blues defence were immense throughout the game and Bury almost pulled off a result by taking the first point from the unbeaten league leaders.
