Match report
With a much improved performance, Bury Town completed a comprehensive victory over their south coast opponents from Hastings United.
Bury had more of the early play, but were unable to trouble keeper Lloyd Anderson. Bury took the lead however in the 10th minute when Kieran Leabon picked up the ball just inside the box and his deflected shot beat the ‘keeper.
Bury continued to keep up the pressure, but their final ball often lacked quality after good approach play.
Bury doubled their lead after 33 minutes when Lee Smith ran onto a great cross field pass from Leabon and chipped the ball past Anderson as he came out.
Bury were playing some good one touch football and little was seen of the Hastings attack until the final five minutes of the half when Kenny Pogue’s low shot was diverted for a corner

Half Time: Bury Town 2 Hastings United 0

The first chance of the second half fell to Hastings when Pogue headed wide from close range as the visitors had their best spell of the game.
At the other end Lee Smith fired just over from Mark Coulson’s great low cross and Sam Reed had a good effort saved as Bury returned to the attack.
On 69 minutes Bury made the points safe when a slick move involving Mark Coulson and Lee Reed ended with a clinical finish by Sam Reed.
Bury continued to dominate and on 78 minutes Russell Short gained possession just inside the box and ran on to fire inside the far post for Bury’s fourth.
It was all one way traffic now and on 86 minutes Bury wrapped up the scoring when substitute Craig Nurse fired home following good work by Mark Coulson.
There was still time for Nurse to go close in the final minute with a flying header.
