New Stadium
The Bury St Edmunds Community Football Stadium:
The Borough of St Edmundsbury has been identified in the Suffolk County FA Facilities Strategy as a potential location for a full size artificial football surface. St Edmundsbury Borough Council is in possession of an 11 acre site at Moreton Hall allocated for recreational use over 15 years as part f the settlement for the granting of access rights to the residential land from Bedingfield Way.
The current Bury Town Football Club stadium cannot attract investment to make further improvements for the future development of the Club at the current Ram Meadow site.
The provision of the full size all weather football surface with junior and mini soccer pitches together with changing facilities and the relocation of Bury Town FC to the new site would enable the development of a true community football facility.
The new community football facility would develop senior, junior, women’s and girls football teams and mini-soccer through engaging with the local football clubs and community, thus creating the provision of recreational facilities.
The provision of a community football facility of this kind in Bury St Edmunds has been identified as a priority by the Football Association and also as a site for funding support by the Football Foundation.
Suffolk County FA wish to establish a Player Development centre to include a classroom and additional changing rooms. The player development centre will generate increased participation through its football development programme for senior, junior, women’s and girls and disability football teams.
St Edmundsbury Borough Council has allocated £1 million to the project. A funding bid will be submitted to the Football Foundation, Football Stadia Improvement Fund and other external funding bodies.
Planning permission for the scheme was submitted on the 7th January 2011.
