Mildenhall Town 0 Bury Town 1 - Match Report from Recreation Way

Triallist Matt Waters scored the only goal of The Blues latest Pre-Season friendly with 75 minutes on the clock as the visitors recorded a narrow win at Recreation Way against their Thurlow Nunn League hosts Mildenhall Town.

Bury fielded an under strength side as captain Tom Bullard, striker John Sands, midfielder Lee Reed and new signings David Bridges and Ryan Semple all took no part due to injury and unavailability.

Bury kicked up the slope first half and could have opened the scoring in the opening few minutes through Richard Logan. Bury continued to have more of the play but Mildenhall looked dangerous on the break and created a few chances if their own. As the half wore on the play became more even, with neither side looking like breaking the deadlock.

Bury should have indeed registered the first goal when a free kick was rebounded out by Josh Pope in the Mildenhall goal straight to Billy Clark, but he put the ball well over the top of the bar, which summed up Bury attacking threat in the first 45 minutes.

The second half saw the Blues start on top and pressure the home side as they kicked down the slope. Bury created several efforts on goal, with Roulston going close, and then defender Seb Dunbar shooting wide after breaking down the left wing.

Garnham had been a spectator for most of the second period and he was replaced with Stephen Fenner, and soon after Bury took the lead. Trialist Matt Waters, who played for Histon last season and has recently been on trial at a few professional sides, picked up on a loose ball after a scramble in the box and the 18 year old made no mistake, blasting the ball high into the roof of the net past Pope.

There was no further scoring chances for either side and Bury now face two home games in three days to end their pre-season matches ahead of the new season starting at East Thurrock United on August 10th.
